Every discovery begins with curiosity. Our mission is to follow that spark — uncovering new science, sharing ideas on the horizon, and introducing the scientists whose work is changing how we understand the world.
We spotlight researchers, tell the stories behind their experiments, and translate complex topics into something meaningful and approachable.
This is a space for anyone who loves asking questions, exploring the unknown, and celebrating the people who push knowledge forward.
Who Are We?
This blog is written and curated by Diba Riahi, a student science writer working in collaboration with Dr. Amanda J. Roberts, Associate Professor and Director at the Alcohol Research Center of Excellence at Scripps Research. Together, we aim to make emerging research more accessible while spotlighting the scientists whose work drives discovery.

Diba leads the storytelling side of the project — interviewing researchers, writing features, and translating complex ideas into meaningful narratives for students, science enthusiasts, and the broader community. She focuses on giving readers a closer look at the people behind the science and the questions that inspire their work.
Dr. Roberts serves as a scientific advisor and mentor, helping guide topic selection and ensuring that the science presented is accurate, current, and reflective of ongoing research efforts. Her expertise grounds the blog in real laboratory work while supporting its educational mission.
Our collaboration brings together two perspectives — a young science communicator learning the craft of research storytelling, and a scientist committed to shaping the next generation of communicators and researchers.
